Carmen’s Corner – March

It’s March! This is the time one starts dreaming and planning a trip to Italy.

I’m often asked, “What’s the best time to travel to Italy?” My answer is: “All year round.” April and May are lovely — not too hot, less chance of rain and the flowers are in bloom! June generally isn’t that hot and usually doesn’t see much rain. July and August are almost always the hottest months, so a good time to be near the water — perhaps on a tour of the Amalfi Coast or a stay in the northern lake region. Alpine country — especially in the Dolomites — offers refreshingly cool evenings. As fall takes hold, tourists in most parts of Italy tend to be fewer, making popular places like the Cinque Terre less likely to be too crowded. During the holidays in December and the New Year, bustling cities and quaint towns are festively decorated, and many feature local markets, Christmas pageants or New Year’s celebrations.

Your Own Italy specializes in private travel for couples, families and groups of friends. We help you customize your itinerary, choosing the cities you want to visit, the tours you wish to experience and whether you prefer a boutique hotel or to “live like a local” in an apartment or villa. World-famous art museums and archeological sites as well as wine tours, cooking classes, nature hikes and shopping itineraries are just a few ways you can discover Italy. And all without being on crowded buses or waiting in long lines of tourists. From the local guide to the driver to the chef, all is arranged privately – just for you and your family, just for you and your friends.
