Exploring Reggia di Caserta: A Royal Masterpiece

Morning at the Reggia di Caserta

Your day begins with a visit to the Reggia di Caserta, often referred to as the ‘Versailles of Italy’. This UNESCO World Heritage site is one of the largest royal residences in the world, commissioned by the Bourbon kings of Naples in the 18th century. As you wander through its lavishly decorated rooms and expansive gardens, you’ll be transported into a world of opulence and elegance. The palace’s art and architecture, a testament to the genius of Luigi Vanvitelli, showcase the pinnacle of Italian Baroque and Rococo.

The Gardens and the English Garden

Beyond the palace itself, the Reggia di Caserta’s gardens extend for miles, featuring fountains, waterfalls, and beautifully landscaped areas inspired by the gardens of Versailles. Don’t miss the English Garden, a botanical wonder with exotic plants and ancient ruins, offering a peaceful retreat within the royal estate.

A Culinary Journey on Mt. Vesuvius

Lunch with a View

After exploring the regal beauty of Caserta, your journey continues to the fertile slopes of Mt. Vesuvius, the only active volcano in mainland Europe. Here, amidst the lush vineyards that thrive on the volcanic soil, you’ll enjoy a lunch that highlights the region’s culinary heritage. Savor traditional dishes prepared with fresh, local ingredients, all while taking in the breathtaking views of the Bay of Naples.

Wine Tasting on the Volcano

The highlight of your afternoon is a wine tasting session at a local vineyard, where you’ll sample wines uniquely influenced by the volcanic terroir. Learn about the ancient winemaking traditions of the area, which date back to the Roman times, and taste the difference that the mineral-rich soil makes to the wines produced on the slopes of Vesuvius.
