Introductory Tour of Verona

Discover Verona: A City of Eternal Romance

An Introductory Tour of Verona with Your Own Italy is an enchanting journey through a city where history, romance, and beauty intertwine. Verona, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is famed not only for its tragic association with Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” but also for its ancient Roman architecture, medieval castles, and vibrant piazzas. This personalized tour is designed to immerse you in the rich tapestry of Verona’s past and present, exploring its most iconic landmarks and hidden gems.

Discover Verona: A City of Eternal Romance

Arena di Verona
Begin your exploration at the Arena di Verona, one of the best-preserved ancient Roman amphitheaters in the world. Built in the 1st century, the Arena is still in use today, hosting spectacular operas and concerts that draw audiences from around the globe. Step inside to marvel at the grandeur of Roman engineering and imagine the spectacles that have entertained crowds for centuries.

Juliet’s House (Casa di Giulietta)
No visit to Verona is complete without paying homage to the legendary tale of Romeo and Juliet. Juliet’s House, with its famous balcony, draws visitors who come to ponder the star-crossed lovers’ fate. While the story is a work of fiction, the romantic allure of the courtyard and the tradition of leaving notes on the wall make it a must-visit spot.

Piazza delle Erbe and Piazza dei Signori
Stroll through the heart of Verona’s historic center, where the ancient Roman forum now serves as the lively Piazza delle Erbe. Surrounded by majestic buildings and lively cafes, this square is the perfect place to soak in the atmosphere of the city. Nearby, the Piazza dei Signori is framed by elegant palaces and the statue of Dante, offering a more serene counterpart to the bustling market square.

Ponte Pietra and Teatro Romano
Cross the Adige River via the Ponte Pietra, Verona’s oldest bridge, to reach the Teatro Romano. The Roman Theatre, dating back to the 1st century BC, is an archaeological marvel set against the hillside. During the summer months, it hosts performances under the stars, continuing the ancient tradition of open-air theater.

Basilica di San Zeno Maggiore
Conclude your tour at the Basilica di San Zeno Maggiore, one of Italy’s finest examples of Romanesque architecture. The basilica houses stunning artworks, including the famous altarpiece by Mantegna. The tranquil cloisters and the striking facade provide a peaceful respite from the city’s hustle and bustle.
