Cannaregio and the Jewish Ghetto with Chichetti
Description
The word “ghetto” comes from Venice, where it referred to the isolated and confined area where the Jews were forced to reside. Despite the difficulties and the dangers, the Venetian ghetto was also a lively and dynamic place, where the Jewish people preserved their traditions, customs and beliefs. The Jewish community of Venice enriched the city with their contributions to the fields of commerce, art and science, and kept a strong sense of identity and dignity.
As you walk through the narrow alleys, charming squares and romantic bridges that make up the ghettos vecchio, novo and novissimo, you will also explore the Cannaregio district, where you can mingle with the locals and enjoy the authentic atmosphere of the open air markets. Here you can find fresh fruits, vegetables and delicacies that will tantalize your taste buds. To end your tour on a high note, you will stop for a refreshing spritz and a tasty cicheto at a cozy Jewish bakery or a typical bacaro, depending on your preference. Whether you prefer something sweet or savory, you will love the flavors of Venetian cuisine. Don’t miss this chance to dive into the fascinating and captivating story of the Jewish ghettos of Venice!
